A marine was left heartbroken after learning that his two rescue dogs might have to stay behind as he was about to move to a new base and the canines were considered too big to fly with him.
Andrew Morales of the U.S. Marine Corps rescued his two dogs in Afghanistan back in 2011. After his deployment was over, the man brought the pups home to California.
As years passed by, the Staff Sergeant was informed that he would get transferred from Southern California to a base in Camp Lejeune.
While Morales was ready to move, he was soon informed that his pups, Wyatt and Dusty, wouldn’t be allowed on the commercial flight as they were too big.
“We couldn’t really get them on the aircraft because this airport doesn’t take large airplanes,” Morales said in an interview with WWAY.
Without a solution on his hands, the desperate Marine contacted the rescue league that previously assisted him in bringing the dogs to the States.
After the institution shared his story on Facebook, the heiress of Wrigley Gum, Helen Rich (formerly Rosburg), reached out to the man and offered help.
“He was going to lose his dogs and I said ‘Not on my watch,’” the kind lady, who is also a dog lover, said according to ABC News. “He’s a hero on so many different levels. The Wrigleys are an extremely patriotic family and I am a true Wrigley child.”
And so, Helen offered Morales, his beloved dogs, and his family a free ride to the Marine’s new base in their private jet.
“From the bottom of me and my wife’s hearts we really appreciate what she did for us,” the soldier said after the act of kindness. “We’ve just got to find a way to get together,” Helen added, saying that she is eager to meet the Marine and his family.
