The Florida swamp search for Brian Laundrie has been very expensive and the total costs have finally been revealed.
Shortly after Gabby Petito went missing, the van-life girl’s boyfriend and fiancé, who has been named a person of interest, disappeared without a trace and sparked nationwide searches.
For six days in a row, dozens of searches led by the FBI and the local police and law enforcement agencies have taken place in the swamplands of Florida’s Carlton Reserve and the young man’s hometown of North Port.
As DailyMail.com has now revealed, an insider who is a rescue and search expert explained that the manhunt in the alligator-infested region could cost the authorities as much as $200,000 per day, meaning that over fifty searches that were already carried out in the past week likely cost more than $1.2 million in total.
“I can accurately estimate they are spending $200,000 a day on this search,” Mike Hadsell, the frontman of the Peace River K9 Search and Rescue Association and former LA County sheriff’s deputy, told the publication.
As the expert, who is very familiar with Carlton Reserve, added, Brian’s parents could be ordered to shoulder the expensive bill should it be proven that they lied to the police and the FBI about their son’s disappearance.
“And if this thing turns out to be bogus and they can prove that the family misled law enforcement on this, the parents will get a bill,” Hadsell added.
Speaking to DailyMail.com, the search expert, who is not a part of the manhunt for Laundrie, went on to slam the massive spending on the hunt for the missing man.
“To see them blow more than a million bucks out here on this guy, is just like what the heck? A lot of other people who end up missing need that money and need that help. And they just don’t get it. And that is chaffing me on this whole thing,” he concluded.
