A man from Chicago shot his wife before committing suicide as he thought they had the deadly virus.
The bodies of 54-year-old Patrick Jesernik and 59-year-old Cheryl Schriefer were found in separate rooms in their Lockport Township home laying in pools of blood.
According to officials, all the windows and doors inside their home were locked from the inside. There were no signs of struggle as the home was ‘neat and orderly.’
The person who contacted police said that he was called by Jesernik’s family as they hadn’t heard anything from him. Detectives then conducted a welfare check and found the bodies.
Schriefer was reportedly having breathing difficulties, which is one of the main symptoms of COVID-19. According to her family, she had not even received the coronavirus test result.
An autopsy revealed that Schriefer was shot in the back of her head at close range. Jesernik passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Both of them tested negative for coronavirus.
As of April 8, there are 13,549 confirmed cases in Illinois with 380 deaths. In New York, there are 142, 384 cases and 5,489 fatalities.
One internet user commented: “I wonder if this man was drinking when he did this? I wonder what person would do this without knowing whether or not they were infected? Either he was very drunk, slow, delusional or hated his wife.”
Another wrote: “This happened because the news media and government have vomited up all sorts of horror stories, exaggerations, misinformation, etc. to terrify, intimidate, and control the population. Shameful.”
A third added: “And why on earth would you pull the trigger before even having confirmation that you’re infected? Some people truly are too dumb to live. RIP to the wife.”
