A man living in Fort Worth was arrested on Monday after he was coughing and spitting on a lady at a laundromat and claimed to have Covid-19 at the same time.
Smith was in custody at Tarrant County Correction Center in lieu of fifteen hundred dollar bond until Wednesday. It is unclear whether he had hired a lawyer or not.
Whether Smith has coronavirus is also unknown as his medical details were not shared by the police department.
Fort Worth Police Department said in a statement that they were called to a local laundromat regarding a suspect coughing and spitting on people intentionally. The person also claimed to have the coronavirus disease.
This happened when the victim found the suspect sleeping on the property. She then asked the suspect to leave. However, he got irritated and began coughing in her face. Then he spat on the woman and coughed on others as well before running away on foot.
The officers located Jeffrey Smith, the suspect, nearby and put him in custody. After that, Smith was taken to a local hospital. He was charged with a class B misdemeanor – Terroristic Threat.
Similar incidents have been happening where people are scaring other people or coughing on things in departmental stores and claiming to have coronavirus.
However, many of them have done so just to gain popularity on social media platforms and did not suffer from Covid-19 in real.
A few weeks back, an incident was making the headlines where a social media influencer, Larz, uploaded a video of himself licking the bowl of a public toilet.
Later, he uploaded a photo of him sitting on a hospital bed because he had actually contracted the coronavirus disease.
