A 24-year-old man from Colorado faces up to 20 years in jail and a $250,000 fine after he disrupted an Alaska Airlines flight.
Reports say that Landon Grier refused to wear a mask during the flight from Seattle to Denver. He also urinated in the cabin and explained that he “didn’t know if he was peeing.”
Grier was arrested after the flight landed on March 9, an affidavit filed in the US District Court in Denver said.
According to the affidavit by FBI Special Agent Martin Daniel III, Grier appeared to be trying to sleep when a flight attendant asked him many times to wear his mask as it was required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
A passenger then called the attendants as Grier was peeing in his seat area.
Grier told the agent that he had several beers and “a couple of shot” before he boarded the flight. He then fell asleep and “awoke to being yelled at by the flight attendants who told him he was peeing.”
Daniel added: “He stated he had no recollection of hitting the flight attendant and didn’t know if he was peeing.”
Grier appeared on the court and was released on a $10,000 bond pending his next court appearance.
Alaska Airlines said in a statement: “We will not tolerate any disturbance onboard our aircraft or at any of the airports we serve.”
One person commented: “When are US Airlines going to quit letting intoxicated people on planes? We all know what drove the urinating, don’t we?”
Another wrote: “why do people drink and act like boors when they travel by plane ? Its such a small confined space they should instead be on their best behavior. Be freshly showered, clean clothes, and be considerate of others. I guess I am too much of a Canadian :)”
A third added: “The airlines should ban passengers that are already intoxicated from boarding the plane.”
