A 57-year-old father from Glasgow has been left in agonizing pain after his surgery left him with a permanent erection.
It was four years ago when James Scott suffered from severe pelvic injuries while he was at work. The accident left him needing a surgical procedure on his damaged private organ.
Scott sustained four injuries to his groin area, broke a bone at the base of his spine, suffered a blocked urethra (tube that lets you urinate), and got huge cuts around his legs.
After the accident, he went under the knife numerous times. But the surgery he had a couple of years ago left him unable to get an erection.
However, his latest surgery left him with an erection that doesn’t go away. Scott now says he is a prisoner in his own house as the agonizing pain means he can’t even wear a pair of trousers.
In an interview with the Daily Record, the 57-year-old said: “After the operation, I wasn’t able to get an erection, so I had another op. They inserted metal rods into my penis.
“I was told it would be sore for about six to eight weeks after but I never expected anything like this. I’ve now got a permanent erection and I’m in agony.
“I can’t bear anything to touch it. I can’t even wear clothes. It’s a nightmare.”
He added: “Surely male and female doctors assess patients of the opposite sex daily.”
An NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokesperson said: “We would advise anyone who experiences adverse symptoms after an operation to call NHS24, who can recommend the most appropriate course of action.”
A Tollscross Medical Center spokesperson said: “Maintaining patient confidentiality is extremely important and it makes commenting on individual cases extremely difficult.
“In general terms, severe post-operative complications are most appropriately managed by the specialists in hospital and the safest option is for hospital assessment.”
