A vandal was caught on camera trying to rip a wooden cross from the roof of a church in east London.
With his coat placed on top of the wooden cross, the man repeatedly tried to pull it from the roof of Chadwell Health Baptist Church.
Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene at around 2:40 pm after receiving calls about the disrespectful man who was using all his force to rip the large cross.
A spokesperson for the force said they managed to recover the cross and the vandal was taken into custody.
One person commented: “I’m not religious but I respect other people’s beliefs and that’s the way it should be.”
Another wrote: “We have come to a new low, it’s not right to tear down any statue but a cross , I lost my words on that one, and any of you who follow these people think twice for you will be headed down the low road.”
A third added: “That Cross was there before he was born, the church built by the people so why is it suddenly offensive to him? Making a point that he can do it and nothing will happen to him? I just think it’s so sad.”
Someone else said: “If that man wanted a cross I would have made him one don’t go and tear down the cross at the beautiful Church.”
