A man is suing Starbucks after allegedly suffering severe burns to his hands and private areas when the tea he ordered spilled after the lid came off by accident.
The incident happened in Roseville, California, back in 2018 when 24-year-old Tommy Piluyev ordered two Grande Honey Citrus Mint Teas at a drive-thru Starbucks.

While the tea Piluyev ordered comes in a sleeved cup along with a lid, the cover allegedly came off as the father was receiving his order, causing the sizzling tea to spill over his hands and his private areas.
“As the window associate reached to the SUV’s window sill to deliver the second sleeved and lidded cup to Mr. Piluyev, the lid lost its seal with the cup lip and dislodged from the top of the cup,” the complaint reads according to The Sacramento Bee report.
“Hot tea spilled on Mr. Piluyev’s left hand during the transfer, the cup overturned on the window sill and hot tea poured onto Mr. Piluyev’s hands, stomach and pelvic area.
“Covered in scalding tea, and unable to open his door to escape because he was near the drive-through window, Mr. Piluyev quickly put the SUV into gear and accelerated from the window. He pulled into an adjacent parking lot, hastily exited the vehicle and stripped off his sweat pants.”
Following the unusual accident, the 24-year-old was forced to stay at the UC Davis Medical Center for 11 days to receive treatment for his burns.
According to the lawsuit, Piluyev suffered “partial-thickness burns with blistering across the lower left abdomen, thighs, penis, scrotum, peritoneum and buttocks.”
As the complaint adds, the incident left “permanent skin discoloration and disfigurement of Mr. Piluyev’s genitals and inner thighs made eventual intimacy awkward and painful.”
In addition, the victim told CBS 13 that he was forced to “learn how to walk again” after sustaining severe tissue damage around his groin area.
