According to the reports, Saulnier was involved in a collision with off-duty officers and left bleeding after his leg got pierced by a piece of metal. While the officers were not injured during the incident, the young man had to be rushed to the hospital in need of surgery.

After arriving at the emergency room and while in recovery, the 24-year-old was allegedly handcuffed to his hospital bed for a week because the police had found out that he hadn’t paid his pending parking tickets.

“This was a total abuse of power. They treated me like I killed 20 people,” Saulnier said in an interview with The New York Post.

According to the suit, the officers reacted to the car crash with anger “because one of their own was in an accident with a civilian.”

“With absolutely no regard for the obvious injuries he had suffered, Saulnier was cuffed by the NYPD, as he lay in agony on the stretcher once he arrived at the emergency room at Jacobi Hospital,” the lawsuit reportedly reads.

As Mr. Saulnier, who is seeking $10 million, told The Post, he was handcuffed in two areas whereas the cops allegedly didn’t explain why.

“I had a broken left leg, a shackled right leg and they handcuffed my left wrist. I said, ‘Why are you guys doing this to me?’ None of the cops had an answer,” the 24-year-old said.
