A man was arrested and jailed after stealing vital face masks from a hospital as health workers are struggling to come across protective equipment amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The robbery occurred in London, UK, where 34-year-old Lerun Hussain stole three surgical masks before getting detained by the Kings College Hospital security guards.
According to The Daily Mail, Hussain was charged with theft and sentenced to three months in jail after pleading guilty.
In another recent incident of its kind, doctors pleaded with the public to help them keep their practice open after thieves stole the remainder of their protective equipment.
“Could the person who has stolen the only box of masks that we have in the building that were kindly donated by a local dental practice yesterday afternoon please return them to the practice. We need to protect our staff to enable us to remain open,” Church Street Surgery wrote in their Facebook post after the theft.
Fortunately, Good Samaritans have responded and provided Church Street Surgery with sufficient donations in face masks so that they could remain open.
“We are totally humbled by the kindness and generosity we have received today in light of the post we made this morning regarding our stolen masks,” the surgery added in an update after securing crucial donations.
“The messages of support have been overwhelming and we have received extremely generous donations of masks from individuals which now means we have enough to keep our staff safe until our official supplies arrive.
“From each and every one of us at the practice we thank you for your generosity and your continued support during this extremely difficult and challenging time.”
