A man has been severely criticized after he tried to sell a sofa for £180 ($194) despite getting it free of cost on the same Facebook thread.
Liam Garbett didn’t miss the opportunity as soon as a free sofa piece was up for sale. But as it turned out, he had demanded it for himself just so he could sell it at a greater price afterward.
Liam revealed that he has made up to £8,000 ($8,626) in two years by selling the stuff he got for free.
After he received criticism from social media users, the 25-year-old brazenly defended himself, saying: “They didn’t tell Alan Sugar to grow up when he was selling sweets in the playground for 50p extra.”
Even though his dishonest practices were revealed to the public, he still got a customer who agreed on paying £180 for the sofa.
On being condemned by the netizens, the impudent fellow from Wolverhampton mentioned that he doesn’t care about anybody’s opinions.
He said: “It’s a dog eat dog world. I would have upped the price even more if I could. I should have sold it for even higher.
“I sold it for £180 in the end. Because the post went so big, basically people were offering me crazy money for it. They just wanted it and I named my price and they took it.
“I don’t care about the 50 people calling me sc*m. [To them I would say] I can afford new trainers and you can’t. I’ll spend part of the money on that.”
Saying that no review and no comment can stop him from doing the business, he added: “Compare that to the 7,200 people who have liked my comment about Alan Sugar selling sweets, that’s nothing.
“What stops me making money? Nothing’s there to say I can’t do it.”
The guy claimed that he would even love to sell rubbish if he ever found a buyer for that.
He said: “I make a bit of a living off it to be honest. I’ve been doing it for two years now. It’s not just all on Facebook. Wherever and whenever something is free, I’ll try and get it and sell it.
“I’ve bought a new car, garden stuff, some of the stuff I got for free I ended up keeping, clothes, phone, games console, TV. It’s very lucrative for me.
“I’d sell rain if I could. I’d sell the rubbish out of people’s bins if people would buy it to be honest.”
Though Liam was being disliked by a lot of people on social media, many supported him arguing that he’s an amazing opportunist with great skills.
Liam insisted that he would continue trading, regardless of what people think about him. He said: “I’d complete The Apprentice to be honest with you. No issues, I’d complete that.”
