With heatwave sweeping over England, the Hungerford resident knew he had to act fast after seeing the “distressed” pooch locked in a car during “one of the hottest days of the year.”

And so, the 58-year-old picked up his ax and smashed the front window of the car without a second doubt.

“The dog was in such distress and it was one of the hottest days of the year. In the car, it was over 33 degrees (91F) and it had been alone in there for 40 minutes,” Mr. Morris said.

“I would have never left the dog and would do the same thing all over again.”

Before smashing the car window, Morris dialed the authorities and informed them of the incident. Unwilling to leave the dog in danger any longer, he then proceeded to smash the window and rescue the pooch before they showed up.

“I’m licensed to carry all sorts of things as a firearms dealer – so I was pretty prepared! Time was just ticking away so I knew that I had to do something. It was very fortuitous for the dog,” Morris added.

“I’ve always been a dog person since I was a young boy. You can never see an animal suffer. I think any animal lover who was put in that situation would do exactly the same. The dog was dying.”

After the cops arrived at the scene, the dog was sent to a vet for a check-up. According to Morris, however, they still haven’t informed him whether the pooch survived the incident or not.

In an interview with The Sun, the 58-year-old also revealed that the pooch “become lifeless” and that “its eyes were closed.”

“People were looking around but no one was doing anything. I think more people just need to grow a pair of b******s and do something when something like this happens,” he said.

The concerned dog lover, who works at Woodland Enterprises Ltd, also revealed that the Yorkshire Terrier’s owner was “very shocked,” rather than emotional, after she had returned to her car.

“A member of the public did smash a car window to get a dog out of a car,” Thames Valley Police confirmed after the incident.

“Two of our PCSOs attended, the dog was taken by one of the PCSOs for a check over. The owner of the vehicle returned and was given advice.”
