A man who proposed on top of a cliff was slammed by local coastguards and internet users due to his decision to pop the question on a dangerous area.
The beachgoer was seen on his knees at the top of an unstable cliff on Orcombo Point, Exmouth weeks after a huge boulder fell nearby.
Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team posted the photo on social media, calling the man a ‘fool’ and urging visitors to ‘stay away’ from the dangerous site.
“Unstable Sandstone cliffs at Orcombe point, Exmouth,” a spokesperson wrote.
“Are you foolish enough to take the risk? He clearly was! Don’t become a statistic. Stay away from unstable cliffs!”
Facebook users also commented and criticized the man’s decision. One wrote: “There was a sign on the clifftop, put up by the National Trust, but idiots have removed it. Idiots who want to put others at risk.”
Another wrote: “Saw a couple up there on Thursday afternoon. The chap went right to the edge and stamped on it presumably to see how stable it is.”
A third added: “About as smart as the ones that set up camp directly below, under the ‘Danger – Falling Rocks’ signs. Plenty of them out last week.”
Someone else said: “This is why we don’t let our kids near the rocks. Hopefully other parents will do the same.”
Only a week before the proposal, a large boulder was seen rolling down the cliff before it hit the bridge below.
52-year-old Jacky Sayers took photo of the incident and shared in on Facebook to warn people about the area.
