A YouTuber tragically died after he was shot in a parking lot on Friday night during a ‘prank’ robbery.
Police in Tennessee rushed to the parking lot of an Urban Air indoor trampoline park after a man, identified as 20-year-old Timothy Wilks, was reportedly shot and killed.
The gunman, 23-year-old David Starnes Jr, admitted to shooting the prankster.
Witnesses told police that Wilks and his friend were making a ‘prank robbery’ for a YouTube video.
But when Wilk and his friend approached a group of people with ‘fake’ butcher knives as part of the prank, Starnes jumped into action to defend himself and his friends and pulled the trigger.
Starnes told investigators that it was out of self-defense as they were not aware of the prank.
MNPD said that no charges have been filed in the 20-year-old’s death. The investigation is still underway.
One lawyer told WZTV Nashville: “I’m sure the people involved would like to characterise this as a prank. But it certainly seems to be a prank that went seriously awry.”
One person commented: “The only victim is the guy who had to do the shooting and the people he was trying to defend. Think they were looking for all that when they got in their car that night?”
Another wrote: “We always talk about the dead as the victim, but in this case the victims were the threatened and defenders. They will live with this for years. So needless!”
A third added: “He used to star in some fart sharter prank videos. He should have stuck to that genre of filmmaking.”
Someone else said: “20 year olds do stupid things. What a sad thing. My condolences to his family, terrible tragedy.”
