An outraged man has vowed to spend $1,800 a week to fly a ‘She is Heartless’ banner over the city as he wanted to protest against Covid-19 related border restrictions happening in Queensland.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has ordered the border to remain closed but James Stevens said seeing people being denied exemptions to visit dying relatives or attend funerals was ‘the most outrageous’ thing he had ever seen.
Mr. Stevens has vowed to spend $1,800 per week to fly a ‘She Is Heartless’ banner from Coolangatta to Brisbane. He insisted that he is not trying to win any political points but just wanted to express how the rules are tearing many people apart.
In an interview with ABC, Mr. Stevens said: “I’m not political. I’m not affiliated in anyway. I’ve voted for Liberal and Labor before, but this has got to stop.”
What prompted him to do the act was a 29-year-old woman who was granted a last-minute exemption to say final goodbye to her dad who had passed away from cancer. She was not allowed to mingle with relatives and had to be escorted in complete personal protective equipment throughout the service.
“I thought that was the most outrageous thing I’d ever seen a politician do,” Mr. Stevens expressed. “I nearly threw my computer at the TV when I saw that.
“She has exhibited a real callousness, a cold-hearted attitude to people’s suffering and problems.”
PM Scott Morrison intervened in the case and called the Queensland Premier to let the woman say farewell to her father.
The Premier said he is ‘human’ too and understands how people feel but she had to focus on getting rid of the virus from the state.
