An Australian father has established a mini Coles supermarket inside his house so that his 87-year-old mother could do her weekly grocery shopping while the woman is stuck in isolation.
The cutesy miniature supermarket was set up by Jason Van Genderen for his mother who has vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s.
His mother loves visiting the supermarket every week but because of social distancing and isolation, she could not get out to shop for almost a month.
Jason shared the clip on Facebook of the adorable experience and noted that it was possible to allow the sunshine in when they could despite it being a really difficult time.
In the video, Jason noted that they had been living in their home for isolation for the last 4 weeks.
He added that something unique about their family was that his mother lived with them. He then went on to say that his mother has vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s.
He further added that his mother’s routine had been disrupted and she could not make sense about the passing of the week.
He continued and told that amongst the big things his mother held on to was weekly supermarket ship that she does with the family in tow.
This is why instead of completely abandoning it, Jason, his wife, and their 2 children established a temporary mini supermarket in their home so the woman could do her shopping.
Jason’s mother, at the supermarket, was greeted by Megan, his wife, while their children Art and Evie worked as checkout assistance.
Jason asked his mother to take her purse so that they could go shopping and then went on to explain that since she could not be taken to the supermarket in real, they had brought the supermarket to her. His mother loved the entire experience.
