Dog owners know that while having a furry companion is a great joy, it is also an expensive investment.

Anyone who has had a major medical issue with their pet knows that a little too well.

In 2014, Christina Summit was hit hard with this reality. She was working three jobs when the vet told her that her Lab/Great Dane mix, Tucker, needed a $3,000 surgery.

Despite working tirelessly, Christina couldn’t afford to pay for Tucker’s surgery. This broke her heart. She loved her dogs like crazy. She even had a paw print tattoo on her arm dedicated to her companions.

It was the tattoo, in fact, that sparked a conversation with a stranger one night. Christina was working as a bartender at the Holiday Inn when a customer asked her about the tattoo. The two swapped photos of their pets, and Christina explained how Tucker needed a $3,000 surgery, but she didn’t have the money.

As Christina walked to the register to close the man’s tab, she looked down at the tip line. It read: $1,000.

Shocked, she showed the receipt to a coworker. The two were in disbelief.

She returned to the customer, “Joe, you can’t do this.” The two had talked for quite some time, but Christina was overwhelmed by his act of kindness. He told her to use the money for Tucker’s surgery.

Christina was floored. The man, Joe, was the owner of a Mercedes Benz dealership and said he did this kind of thing often.

Tucker had his surgery (to remove a tennis ball from his stomach!) and is currently happy and healthy!
