In a bizarre church attack, a man has destroyed a Virgin Mary shrine by throwing rocks at it after his prayers for a miracle went by unanswered.
The incident occurred in Guadalajara, Mexico, where 38-year-old Jorge smuggled two large rocks into the Guadalajara Cathedral before throwing them at the shrine.
The two rocks, which Jorge had been carrying around in his backpack, have broken the protective glass of the shrine and ripped through the painting of the Virgin Mary.
In the footage obtained by the police, Jorge is seen waiting for another churchgoer to finish his prayers before proceeding to remove the giant rocks from his backpack and hurling them at the shrine.
The first rock made a small hole in the bottom of the shrine whereas the second one made a larger hole just under the hands of the Virgin Mary.
After fellow parishioners witnessed the attack on Our Lady of Guadalupe, they have called the authorities who rushed to the cathedral to apprehend the culprit.
As the Guadalajara police department revealed after arresting the man in question, Jorge had made his wish to Virgin Mary several months prior to his mischief.
According to the reports, he felt upset and wanted revenge after “his prayer for a miracle was not answered.”
After the shrine was damaged, the church has covered it with a tarp and ordered for it to be fixed. Estimated damages to the religious object are at $130.
