A man who had been wronged by the police in the past had risked his own life to save an officer from a burning vehicle.
31-year-old Daylan McLee from Pennsylvania spent one year in jail after allegedly being mistaken for the gunman during a confrontation outside a bar years ago.
According to the reports, McLee, who was wrongfully arrested after a brawl erupted outside Dunbar bar back in 2016, put his life on the line to save Officer Jay Hanley despite still fighting his police department over their charges against him.
And so, when officer Hanley was involved in a car crash on Sunday, McLee ran towards the scene and “ripped open” the officer’s patrol car door before dragging the cop out of the vehicle that was getting consumed by the flames.
“I don’t know what came across me, but I ripped the door open and just pulled him to safety across the street,” McLee said after his heroic rescue.
As the 31-year-old expressed, we should all “work on our humanity” and learn how to move on and forgive.
“We’re stuck on how to get up or to get even, and that is not how I was raised to be. You learn, you live, you move on and I was always taught to forgive big,” he said.
When asked about whether he had doubts about saving the cop in question due to being wrong by the law enforcement in the past, McLee said he wouldn’t watch anyone burn because “there is value in every human life.”
“No matter what other people have done to me, or other officers, I thought, ‘this guy deserves to make it home safely to his family,’” he added.
According to the reports, McLee was arrested back in 2016 after rushing to a Dunbar bar to pick up his sister who called him to tell him that there was a fight outside the building.
After the brother arrived at the scene, he disarmed the gunman and threw away the gun before running away from the state troopers who shot at him after mistaking him for the culprit.
Following his arrest, McLee had spent a year in prison before he was finally acquitted by the jury who reviewed the security footage that proved he was not just innocent but helped stop a gunman.
During his time behind the bars, McLee was away from his children and his sick mother who passed away a year ago.
Just months ago, McLee was involved in another incident with the police who allegedly raided a porch gathering in plain clothes and with their guns drawn.
While the 31-year-old initially attempted to run away, he allegedly stopped after the officers announced they were with the police.
During the arrest, one of the cops allegedly kicked McLee in the face and split his lip in the process. As the man claimed, the aggressive arrest was caught on camera and he now plans to fight the charges, including resisting arrest, that have later been laid against him.
Despite everything that he had suffered at the hands of the police, McLee believes in forgiveness and insists that not every police officer should be blamed for the actions of some.
