This is a shocking moment a man pushed a father onto the tracks of a subway station in an unprovoked attack.
New York City police are searching for the man who pushed Rafael Mejias, 25, onto the tracks of a subway station in Manhattan on September 24.
According to reports, Mejias was just listening to music through his headphones when he was pushed by the attacker.
In an interview with CBSNY, Mejias said: “This gentleman — I don’t even know who he is — I see him from the corner of my eyes.
“When I went to go throw something in the garbage, he came from behind and pushed me.”
The father-of-one hit the tracks and was badly injured that he couldn’t pull himself back onto the platform.
“It was scary, because I thought I was going to lose my life and to not be there for my 6-year-old daughter,” he expressed. “For my 6-year-old daughter to know her father is gone — I didn’t want that to happen.”
Four people who saw the shocking incident rushed to the father and carried him back to the platform.
“If those four gentlemen hadn’t picked me up off the tracks, I wouldn’t have been able to get up,” he told the NY Daily News. “When I got up on the platform, the train came into the station.”
Mejias hopes authorities are able to find the attacker and lock him up. “Nobody deserves to be pushed on the subway tracks,” he said.
“I want him off the street because if it can happen to me it can happen to anyone. Every time I close my eyes I keep seeing myself falling and seeing his face.”
