McCormick, the man who was filmed threatening Black Lives Matter protesters with a bow and arrows has been charged with three felonies including aggravated assault and possession and use of a dangerous weapon.
According to the reports, McCormick is an ex-con who had spent twenty years in jail due to various offenses including the battery of officers. Now, each of the new charges could land him an additional five years in jail.
The story of the 57-year-old man went viral after he was filmed aiming his loaded bow at protesters who attended the demonstrations following the death of George Floyd who died after officer Derek Chauvin was seen kneeling on his neck for several minutes.
During the Salt Lake City protest, which took place on May 30, Utah-based McCormick exited his vehicle and pointed his weapon at several protesters before he was apprehended.
As the man insisted in an interview with KSTU, he used the bow in an attempt to protect police officers from the demonstrators and because he was irritated by the protesters’ slogan.
“Some cops are good, excuse me, most cops are good,” McCormick told the station. “I just heard people yelling ‘Black Lives Matter.’ That does irritate me. I just feel like All Lives Matter.”
Previously, the 57-year-old told the reporters that he pulled out his weapon after getting attacked by two protesters for shouting ‘all lives matter’ out of his car window.
“Then I pulled out weapons, then I got beat up some more, then cops grabbed me and my car got totaled,” he said.
After McCormick was apprehended by the protesters, his car was flipped over and set on fire.
