A man from Indianapolis faces five years in jail after he mailed a dead rat to his ex-wife.
It was also revealed that he threatened to set her on fire and decapitate her during a four-year harassment campaign.
55-year-old Romney Christopher Ellis pleaded guilty at a court in Tampa to mailing injurious articles and making interstate threats, according to the United State’s Attorney’s Office Middle District of Florida.
He continued to harass his wife for four long years through objects sent in the mail, various text messages, videos and photos, according to court records.
Ellis even mailed a package to his ex-wife’s home containing a black rose and a dead rat.
The 55-year-old is also alleged to have promised violence, threatening to set his ex-wife on fire and decapitate her.
He continued to send abusive text messages and explicit photos of himself despite being divorced, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
A search of his phone also showed how he had sent text messages saying that he had traveled to Florida to see her.
Postal investigators also executed a search warrant at Ellis’ home in Indianapolis and found a handwritten note containing the addresses and names of his ex-wife and her family and friends.
The 55-year-old is now facing a maximum penalty of 5 years in federal prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 30.
