A Florida man has been arrested after he purchased a $140,000 Porsche with a fake check printed from his computer.
42-year-old Casey William Kelley from Wewahitchka printed his own banker’s check to buy the car at a Porsche dealership in Destin, Okaloosa.
Police shared a photo of Kelley posing next to the car he managed to buy using the false check.
The $140,000 Porsche was reported stolen after it was discovered that the check was fake. But according to Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the 42-year-old did not stop there.
After getting a new car, Kelley used another false check to purchase three Rolex watches.
But the jeweler in Miramar Beach held onto the watches as they waited for the check to cash. As soon as they found out that the check was not real, they reported it to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
Kelley was taken into custody last Wednesday. According to investigators, he admitted he printed the checks from his home computer.
The arrest report states: “Casey stated he didn’t know what the big deal was, and that since it was his account number on the check he printed out, it should be fine.”
The 42-year-old was booked into the Walton County Jail on a charge of fraud and a charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle. His bond was set at $10,000.
One internet user commented: “I just bought a car with a check they definitely didn’t have time to verify before I drove it off the lot.”
Another wrote: “I’d like to meet the stupid f*** that thought the check was legit.”
A third added: “This must have been a rookie salesman and a jerk of a manager not doing the right training. They were lucky he didn’t skip out and wreck the car on a joy ride.”
