Man Convicted For Digging Up Parents’ Grave To Trade Remains For A Motorbike


What kind of motorbike can human remains buy, and why would someone need bones?

Police officers have arrested a man after he reportedly admitted to digging up his parents’ corpses to swap their remains for a motorbike.

Authorities in Mozambique, Africa have detained the man on suspicion of unearthing the remains not only of his parents but also of his uncle.

He reportedly took their bones in one night after someone promised him over $300 and a motorbike.

“The boss told me to look for bones from people who died without getting sick. In exchange, you will get a motorbike,” he told BBC.

“I went to a family cemetery, dug up the bones from my father’s, my mother’s and my uncle’s graves.”

He is reported to have traveled to meet with the ‘businessman’ who was involved in the exploration of mineral resources in the town of Lalaua.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident was already the fifth such case in their area this year alone. Some reports suggest that the bones are used in witchcraft.

The man is being held at the Nampula Provincial Police Command.

A spokesperson for the Provincial Police Command, Zacarias Nacute, said many of such cases are linked to witchcraft.
