Zack was left paralysed eight years ago after he dived into a wave and hit a sandbank on Newport Beach in California, US.

He said about the incident: “When I was running towards the water, I saw a wave coming towards me, but when I got close enough to the wave, I dived into it. The next moment I hit a sandbar headfirst underneath the wave.”

“Instantly after the impact, my whole body went numb and tingly similar to when your arm falls asleep.”

Zack has now revealed how he does his daily tasks and has opened about the struggles he faces.

Zack’s parents Amber and Adron help him out to get out of his bed and to get into his wheelchair and help him undress so he can take a shower.

He says his morning routine is a half long process and his parents help him to get out of his bed, take a shower and brush his teeth.

Zack said: My life has been very difficult since my accident. I am now living in a body that no longer works, and there is nothing I can do about it. When I was first injured, I had no movement below my neck. I could not raise my hand to itch my face.”

“I could no longer feed myself, take a shower on my own, shave, dress, do my hair, brush my teeth, and much more. I was now entirely dependent on others taking care of me so that I could have a decent quality of life. I felt hopeless and discouraged about my life.”

He said this is not how he wanted to live his life. However, he says he now loves his life as it has brought him closer to his parents.

Zack has now moved out of his family home and lives alone. A care assistant helps him in his daily tasks. Despite the struggles, he has a positive attitude towards life and says he has accomplished more than what he had accomplished in his entire previous life.

He added: “I have grown so much from this injury and it is the reason why I am the person I am today. It changed my heart and made me realise I want to help others.”
