A gambling-gone-wrong story from India has gone viral after a husband lost his wife to a bet and ordered her to leave with the man that won.
While most gamblers know their limits and stick to monetary bets when having fun, Binod Kumar Shah from Bihar, India, piled up a huge debt after losing multiple times in a row.
As the man, who was gambling in the Banka district, couldn’t pay off his debt using money, he offered to pay for the lost bet by selling his wife, a lady named Chanda Devi.
After the opponent agreed to Binod’s terms, the man went home and woke up his wife before shocking her by saying she was to pack her bags because the winner would pick her up in the morning.
“My husband told me the winner was coming to the house in the morning so I should get ready to leave with him because he lost the bet,” Chanda said in an interview with a local media outlet.
After the wife told her husband she wouldn’t go, Binod allegedly got extremely upset and assaulted her.
Chanda reported the incident to the police but failed to show up for further hearings because she had already left for another region to live with her family.
“We have registered the complaint and have started the investigation,” a police spokesperson reassured.
