A 24-year-old man has been arrested for taking the life of a pregnant woman who was found dead inside her car.
Jason Brown was charged with carrying firearms without a license and criminal homicide after he shot and killed Katara Bray on February 8.
In the criminal complaint cited by WPXI, the mother-of-four had just discovered that she was pregnant again but said that she didn’t want her fifth child to be Jason’s.
The tragic incident started to unfold at 9 pm when emergency services and police responded to a report concerning a vehicle that had crashed utility police.
Officers found Bray inside the car with gunshot wounds to the neck and head. Sadly, she was declared dead at the scene.
Investigators found out that a man was running from the wrecked vehicle at the time of the incident.
Detectives found the passenger door open and collected evidence suggesting someone opened fire inside the vehicle.
Witnesses also told officers that Bray and Brown were seen together and they got into the car.
According to the complaint, Brown’s phone was discovered in the vehicle as well as his fingerprint on the passenger door.
Officers also found hospital discharge papers with Brown’s name on it.
Bray from McKeesport worked as a medical assistant to support her children. Only hours after her death, she wrote on social media: “I Got Called Super Mom 2 Weeks Ago.”
People who knew the mother-of-four described her as a doting and hardworking parent.
Friend Tionna Toombs told WTAE: “She was a great mom, she was a great daughter, a great sister, and what happened to her she didn’t deserve it at all.”
