Man Leaves 2-Year-Old Boy Outside A Store And Never Returns, Note Says His Mother ‘Can’t Take Care Of Him Anymore’


A 2-year-old boy was abandoned by a man outside a Goodwill store with nothing but a bag of clothes and a note.

Surveillance camera images shared by police show the toddler was dropped off outside the store by a man wearing a cowboy hat and a mask at 9:50 am.

The little boy, who was too young to know his name, was found by police who took him to child protective services.

Police released a photo of the child, who was not wearing a warm coat or any socks, and also images of two suspects, and also the car they were driving when the toddler was left behind.

After almost six hours, a person related to the incident was taken into custody.

“A child was abandoned at the Goodwill drop off location at 57 Stateline Road East in Southaven,” a spokesman for Southaven Police Department said.

“The suspect, a light-skinned black male wearing black jogging pants and a black cowboy hat, dropped the child off with a plastic bag containing a change of clothes and a note.

“The suspect then left the scene on foot. Responding officers but were unable to locate the suspect.

“The male child is approximately two years old and is unable to give his name or the names of his parents or relatives.”

Police chief Macon Moore said that a suspect was arrested at 3:30 pm but no “information or charges are being released.”

“We would like to thank all of the citizens who showed concern for the child, rest assured he is well, and being taken care of and will be re-united with family when CPS determines this is proper,” he continued.
