The man who beat a puppy with a slipper after the pooch defecated inside his house was sent to prison.
Callum Gerken was sentenced to less than 6 months in prison after beating a 17-week-old puppy to death with a slipper.
The black Labrador named Shadow suffered a broken jaw, a laceration to the liver, and fractured ribs from the heartless attack.
The court was told how 27-year-old Gerken caused severe injuries to the puppy, who belonged to a woman also in her 20s, according to The Sun.
He also sent voice messages to Shadow’s owner, saying: “I have just beat it from one side of the room to the other. I don’t give a f***. That is how it will be with me. She ain’t gonna do that again because she cannot f***ing walk.”
Sentencing the killer, Magistrates told Gerken: “The dog died as a result of what was done to her.
“You were determined to cause harm and you made threats that you would cause further harm to the dog.
“You were in a position of responsibility. You used a slipper as a weapon.
“You did not call or take the dog to the vet or seek advice even though you were aware she was unwell.”
Gerken was sentenced to 23 weeks in jail. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 in court costs, £250 compensation and banned from keeping dogs for ten years.
The dog’s owner, who requested to be anonymous, said Shadow was treasured b two children aged 8 and 6. She said that the pooch was their children’s beloved pet and that Shadow “didn’t know anything else but love” before she sadly passed away.
“They had only had her five weeks and they all absolutely adored her and he comes along and beats her to death,” she added.
