A man was sentenced to six years in prison for having sex with women without telling them he was HIV-positive.
41-year-old Danny Perry was sentenced to six years behind bars for transmitting the potentially life-threatening virus to multiple women.
According to reports, Davidson County Criminal Judge Steve Dozier found him guilty of a felony charge of criminal exposure of a person to HIV. He also handed him the maximum prison time for the offense.
A woman who contracted HIV after having sex with Perry said he never told her he had the virus.
Prosecutors, police, and two of Perry’s victims are urging other women who have had sexual interaction with the man to get tested.
The district attorney’s office and Metro Police said they would include additional charges if more women will come forward.
Davidson County assistant district attorney Kate Boston Melby said: “Mr. Perry is a predator. And we’re here for any victims who have the strength and courage to come forward. We want them to know we’ll support them no matter what the circumstances.”
She also said that there are likely dozens of women who Perry exposed to the incurable virus, The Tennessean reported.
“He knowingly infected someone with HIV knowing that he had it, knowing that he could prevent it by taking his medication and by using other forms of protection during their relationship,” Melby added.
“And he still chose to be reckless with other people’s lives.”
HIV or human immunodeficiency virus is a virus that attacks the immune system of the body. Once people contracted the virus, they have it for life. It can be controlled with proper medical care and effective treatment.
