A guy was dubbed the world’s luckiest man after buying two identical lottery tickets and winning the AUS $46.
6 million jackpot.
The anonymous man had mistakenly paid for the same combination of numbers twice. As it turned out, however, the accident got him two-thirds of the final prize rather than one-half he would get from registering the winning combination in a single ticket.
“You’re kidding!” the fortunate Melbourne player allegedly said after he was called by the lottery staff.
“Am I seeing things? I just checked my entry online and I think I know what you’re about to tell me. I’m speechless. I can’t believe it… I just finished work for the night.”
The man, who paid for the winning tickets in St Albans, Melbourne, walked away with AUS $46.6m while the ‘third’ winner, who is yet to be identified, will be rewarded with AUS $23.3 million.
The winning numbers included 9, 12, 18, 24, 25, 28, 29, and bonus numbers 13 and 31.
As for the lucky winner, he now plans to retire after playing the lottery for over three decades.
“I play every week. I have always marked my entries but I have never chosen the numbers on anything in particular,” he said.
“They weren’t special before, but they are now. I need time for the news to register. I might think about retiring. First maybe a new home or a holiday.
“I’ll definitely share it with my family.”
According to the spokesperson of The Lott, an Australian lottery organizer, the draw was “remarkable” and truly one of a kind.
“What’s remarkable about tonight’s draw is that there were three division one entries, but two winners,” Matt Hart said.
“The reason for this, the two Victorian entries are held by the one registered player.”
