A thief has gone viral on social media after he gave a bizarre interview while he was being escorted to a police vehicle.
Jeffrey McCants Jr. is accused of stealing a fire service car from an Alabama station. He explained that he needed to get some fuel for his own vehicle after telling the reporter that it was God who told him to steal.
Even though his interview was bizarre, the moral of this story is not to steal emergency cars no matter how desperate you are.
When McCants was asked why he stole the emergency vehicle, he answered: “I took it because God told me too and guess what? God help me do everything. I steal everything. I’ll steal ya heart, baby.”
His remark was aimed at a female reporter.
After leaving the station, McCants shouted: “Hello! My name is Jeffrey McCants and I’m running for mayor of Mobile, Alabama, baby!”
The thief later continued: “I had to do it because God helps me do everything, good and bad. He helped me get away from the police, but not this time.”
McCants also tried to exonerate his pal, who maintained his innocence. He said: “He ain’t steal s***.”
Cops also appeared to be entertained by McCant’s words.
In another interview, the thief said: “It had the keys in it. I needed some gas so therefore I took the car, I had to. It was the only way to get gas.
“It said, ‘Hey man, you’ll get there faster if you take me,’ so I said, ‘OK car, imma take it.’ So I took it and I washed it. I washed the car!”
The car was later found parked under a tree.
McCants was arrested while in another vehicle that had also been reported as stolen from the same car park.
Pritchard Mayor Jimmy Gardner said that the fire car’s equipment was discovered in the trunk of the other stolen vehicle.
“So they weren’t just going to get gas and they weren’t borrowing a vehicle. That’s theft and we are charging them,” Gardner said.
