Tony McGinn, also known as ‘Tony Bark’, says identifying as a dog has brought him closer to his husband and handler Andrew who fully supports him.

Tony, from Los Angeles, regularly has play dates with other role-players and his husband and ‘handler’ accompanies him.

Andrew said he is thankful he is married to someone who encourages him to explore his imagination while he does the same.

He said: “I think everyone should feel comfortable exploring the limits of their creativity and imagination and most of us have grown up in a culture that strongly discourages you from taking it too far.”

Tony, who identifies as a dog, says he considers himself a pup at all times every day, but he doesn’t engage in pet play every day – only a few times a month.

He engages in pet play often in a social setting such as a club or an event.

Tony loves playing fetch and tug of war with his husband and handler Andrew.

Andrew said: “In a practical sense all I really do is help fill out the fantasy by being the human. In the same way, a human looks after their pet to make sure that their pet doesn’t have a little too much fun and hurt themselves.”

“I bring water and just tell Tony when he needs to chill out.”

Tony added: “I think everyone should try it once, and if they like it, they should try it a second time.”
