44-year-old Jason Jentsch recently lost his beloved dog, Bruce, who was 12 years old when he passed away.

Bruce, a Boston terrier, was only a puppy when Jason adopted him, and the two shared a strong bond.

Jasey Jentsh, Jason’s 19-year-old daughter, told The Dodo: “Bruce became my dad’s best friend.”

“Every Saturday morning, they would sit together on the recliner and watch TV,” she added.

As the pooch aged, he lost his eyesight and depended on his owner as a trustworthy caregiver who would always love and keep him safe.

“He trusted my dad no matter what,” Jasey expressed.

When Bruce passed away, the whole family felt the heavy weight of the loss. But the impact of it was harder on Jason.

Jasey said the pain of Bruce’s passing ‘really hurt’ her dad.

His wife came up with the idea to buy a customized Bruce-shaped pillow, with the dog’s likeness printed on the front. When Jason saw what was inside the gift bag, he smiled. His lip then quivered and he broke down in tears.

“Thank you,” he managed to say.

“It made my heart very happy,” Jasey said. “Seeing how happy the pillow made my dad really brought tears to our eyes and comfort.

“My dad is the strong one in the house, so seeing him show his vulnerability really shows you how much Bruce meant to him.”

Jasey added: “The pillow stays on my parents’ bed. It never leaves my dad’s side.”

She told the Press Association that they are considering adopting another dog from a shelter. “We could never replace Bruce of course, but there’s always room for another one to be adopted and we know that’s what Bruce would want!”
