A man has graduated with a nursing degree from the same university where he used to work as a janitor.

Frank Baez started working at New York University’s Langone Tisch Hospital after he moved from the Dominican Republic to New York City with his mother.

Frank, who was 15 years old at the time, wanted to help his family bear their financial expenses.

After a long journey of hard work, the inspiring guy graduated from the same institute with a nursing degree at the age of 29.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Frank said: “Of course there were times I doubted myself, but then I felt that I wanted to do something more for myself, that I deserved better, that I wanted to continue to move forward and grow and go on with my life.

Frank got the inspiration to become a nurse when he used to see the dedicated nurses taking care of the patients while cleaning the hospital rooms.

“I could barely speak English at the time when I started working at NYU,” he said. “Now I reflect on it and I feel very proud of how much I accomplished.”

Baez left his job and started studying at Hunter College in order to pursue his bachelors’ degree – the first person to do so in his family.

He later returned to NYU to pursue his dream of becoming a nurse, opting for a 15-month accelerated program.

Though he couldn’t become an A grade student, he managed to get a GPA of 3.6, thanks to his continuous hard work and tireless efforts.

The program was “extremely rigorous” but Baez “flew through it with flying colors,” Natalya Pasklinsky, director of simulation learning at the college, told GMA.

“The way he interacted with patients, to me showed a lot of compassion,” she said. “In my mind, he’s a star. I think he’s going to be a fantastic nurse.”
