Many people today hurt themselves or other people just to get attention and ‘likes’ or ‘hearts’ that they cannot eat.
But YouTuber Brad Homes did something cruel and filmed his girlfriend Jenny screaming in pain after he covered her tampon in chili.
He uploaded the video on YouTube so it could be watched by two million people online.
It seemed to be a funny prank at the beginning. However, this kind of prank is an example of a new trend called ‘cloutlighting’ where men do extreme pranks on their partners then record their reactions to get followers and likes on social media.
The more extreme or hurtful the videos are, the more views and likes they can get, increasing the poster’s clout score (a measurement of how popular they are on the internet).
Recent famous videos include a woman being called ugly by her partner and another being told her cat has passed away.
Many YouTube stars known for sharing such videos say they have their partners’ consent, but experts from relationship charities have shared their concern that abuse could be happening when the camera stops rolling.
27-year-old Brad is known for his videos that show him pranking his partner Jenny. He has more than 250,000 subscribers on YouTube as he regularly shares content shaming his partner, such as pretending to propose to her, cutting a large portion of her hair off, and calling her thick.
But the tampon video was shocking! The video showed him rubbing the seeds of a red chili on his partner’s tampon. Then, he filmed himself laughing as Jenny screamed in pain and desperately attempted to splash water on the burning area.
The video quickly went viral but it was soon deleted from the site as most viewers said it was abusive.
Ammanda Major of the charity Relate told Sun Online: Placing something in the vagina that you didn’t give permission for is abuse, and a woman on the receiving end of that would be in their right to question their safety within the relationship.”
The two broke up a few months later but they got back together and are now engaged. Brad’s most recent video shared on Facebook shows him farting directly in her face.
