One of the exciting parts of being pregnant is finding out whether you are expecting a baby girl or boy.
Holding a gender reveal party allows you to celebrate the magical news with your family and friends, making the reveal more fun and memorable.
Parents usually create a theme for their baby reveal parties and they announced the sex of their baby with sweet treats, such as cupcakes and a cake.
But one gender reveal party in Michigan went horribly wrong, leaving one man dead, three cars damaged and everyone in the venue horrified.
A 26-year-old man tragically died after a cannon used at the reveal party struck him, police said.
According to Michigan State Police, a homeowner in Genesee County ignited a small cannon device at around 7:30 pm to celebrate the child’s pending arrival.
“The homeowner had purchased the cannon at an auction prior to the event and had fired the cannon several times prior. The cannon is designed to create a big flash, a loud noise and create smoke,” police said in a statement.
Evan Thomas Silva, 26, was standing nearby and was struck by metal. He was rushed to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where he tragically died.
“The cannon did not contain any projectiles, but it is suspected that the gun powder loaded into the device caused the cannon to fracture,” the police added.
Three vehicles parked in the garage where the event was being held were also hit by the metal shrapnel.
Michigan State Police said Gaines Township Fire Department and the bomb squad rushed to the scene.
Officers are investigating the incident and the case will be sent to the Genesee County Prosecutor.
