Man Fell From A Cliff After Climbing A Tree To Take A Selfie


A man has tragically passed away after climbing on a tree on top of a cliff before plummeting into the sea.

Steven Gastelum was a 43-year-old hiker from Seaside, Oregon, who took on the Devil’s Cauldron trail together with another adventurist.

As the pair reached a viewpoint located on top of a cliff at Oswald West State Park, Gastelum reportedly climbed a tree in an attempt to take a better photo.

Once the man was on the tree, one of the branches allegedly snapped, causing the 43-year-old to plunge 100 feet to his death.

As the authorities were alerted of the accident, a US Coast Guard helicopter and responders on jet skies were deployed to search for Gastelum.

After the emergency responders located the 43-year-old, he was immediately rushed to the shore from where he was taken to the Tillamook Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Previously, in 2017, another man lost his life while trekking the Devil’s Cauldron trail after losing his balance and plunging nearly 800 feet into the waters below.

51-year-old Joe Lescene was a father-of-two who was on a retreat to nature together with his wife when the accident happened.

After falling into the sea, Joe could not be found for several days and the search was canceled. Ten days after the accident, his body was washed ashore.
