A 38-year-old man faked cancer by taking 20 vitamin pills a day and walking with a cane to stop his girlfriend from leaving his side.
Kevin Bevis from Sittingbourne, England, not only asked his girlfriend, Karen Gregory, to support him during his alleged battle with cancer but also to travel with him as he was ‘attending’ his fake treatments.
Kevin’s manipulations have ended after Ms. Gregory alerted the police of his violent behavior. After the truth surfaced, the man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
As Gregory explained, she met Bevis on Facebook back in 2016. “He was really nice. He acted like a gentleman and was old fashioned, it made a change really,” she recalled.
Just months into their relationship, however, she was about to leave him due to his “sexual urges.”
“He wanted to do swinging but I’m not into all that, so I thought it would be a problem. But he insisted he would never make me do any of that,” Gregory added.
In 2017, before Gregory could leave him, Bevis told allegedly her he had stomach cancer.
“I was speechless. He said ‘aren’t you going to give me a cuddle?’ And then the cancer got worse and worse.
“I just took his word for it… He was with me when I lost my auntie to cancer, how can anyone lie about such a thing?”
As Gregory explained, Bevis would take 20 vitamin pills per day to convince her to believe his story and she would take him to his fake chemotherapy appointments during which she was not allowed to come in with him.
“He would say he didn’t want me seeing him like that. I would pick him up and he would come out with bandages and tell me all about the nurses there,” Ms. Gregory shared.
According to the 50-year-old, she also helped Bevis walk around the house with a cane because he claimed he could not stand on his own.
At one point, Bevis allegedly pretended to lose consciousness in front of his shocked neighbors to keep his girlfriend worried about him.
As the mother-of-three insisted, she even slept with other people just to please her ‘terminally ill’ boyfriend and satisfy his sexual fantasies.
“You do it because you want to make that person happy in their final year, or so I thought. I should never have given in,” Gregory added.
“I did love him but I wasn’t madly in love with him. A friend used to say to me, ‘you don’t love him, you care for him.’”
The truth about Bevis’ deception finally came out when Ms. Gregory contacted the police after he became violent. The 38-year-old was forced to admit that he was lying about cancer after the police had checked his medical records.
Bevis was eventually sentenced to 18 months in jail and handed a 5-year restraining order.
“I couldn’t believe it. It was like something you read in a magazine,” Gregory concluded.
