Young Father-To-Be Dies After His Homemade Gender Reveal Device Explodes

A young man who was about to become a father has passed away after his homemade device intended for a gender reveal party exploded.

28-year-old Christopher Pekny from Liberty, New York, was killed in an explosion at his home as he was putting together a homemade device, which reportedly consisted of a pipe, ahead of his planned gender reveal party.

After the Sunday blast, the authorities arrived at the scene only to find the young man dead and his brother, Michael Pekny, severely injured.

According to the reports, Michael was rushed to the hospital to receive treatment for his leg wounds but is now in a stable condition.

While the deadly incident involving explosive material is still under investigation, State Trooper Steven Nevel confirmed that the device the pair was working on featured some kind of a pipe.

Meanwhile, the eldest brother in the family, 34-year-old Peter Pekny, called the incident “the freakiest of freak accidents that I could ever imagine” in an interview with the New York Times.

Though Peter failed to provide additional details about the accident to the publication, he suggested that both of his brothers were “mechanically inclined” and capable of fixing things.

“He was really looking forward to starting a family. He was really starting to settle down and grow up,” the 34-year-old said.

As Peter explained, he was notified of his brother’s passing on Sunday afternoon just hours before the gender reveal party was about to start.

Following the tragic death, Christopher’s family, who own the Robin Hood Diner, shared the sad news with their fans in a Facebook post.

“We are deeply saddened and must inform you all of the loss of our dear and beloved Christopher. We appreciate the overwhelming display of love and support that you all have shown,” they wrote.
