A young man died from coronavirus after contracting the killer bug while attending a COVID-19 party allegedly held by a confirmed patient who wanted to see if anyone will really get infected.
The incident occurred in Texas where an unnamed 30-year-old man attended a COVID party believing that the pandemic was a hoax.
After contracting the deadly virus, the patient was hospitalized at Methodist Hospital where he later realized the extent of his mistake and succumbed to the disease.
According to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jane Appleby, the young man admitted his mistake in his final moments as he told a nurse tending to him that he “thought this was a hoax.”
As the doctor also told News 4 San Antonio, the patient admitted attending a COVID party where he presumably contracted the virus days before his hospitalization.
“This is a party held by somebody diagnosed by the COVID virus and the thought is to see if the virus is real and to see if anyone gets infected,” Dr. Appleby said in an interview with News 4 San Antonio.
The doctor also spoke out about the incident to KSAT and revealed that the patient “didn’t really believe” in the virus and thought it “was a hoax.”
“He thought he was young and he was invincible and wouldn’t get affected by the disease,” she said.
According to the chief medical officer, she decided to open up about the patient’s case due to the growth in confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bexar County.
Warning people to be cautious, Dr. Appleby pointed out that the virus “doesn’t discriminate and none of us are invincible.”
“My plea to our community and especially all of our young folks in the community is to take it seriously. Wear your mask,” she concluded.
