A man dressed in a Deadpool costume and his colleague has jumped in between two large alligators to stop them from fighting and fatally wounding each other over a territory dispute.

As it turned out, the man behind the superhero’s mask was Jason McDonald, an experienced gator wrestler who works at The Colorado Gator Farm.

As the man and his accomplice revealed, the majority of gators on the farm were brought in after they were confiscated from people who illegally kept them as pets.

“I was just a little apprehensive while jumping on the gator with the costume because I couldn’t see great,” Jason said, shortly before admitting he has been wrestling gators since he was just 13 years old.

“I knew that we had to catch her to put the stitches on her. I just had to make sure it had to be done.”

Joining Jason in securing the injured gator and stitching it up was Jay Young whose family started the farm.

“I’ve only been bitten one time and that was because I put my hand in an alligator’s mouth,” Jason said.

“As long as you keep your hand out of their mouth and you know what you’re doing, the safest spot for you is on the back of an alligator.”

After disinfecting the wound and stitching the gator up, 7-foot Thea was moved to a new enclosure to prevent her from getting in more fights with her rival.

“We hope to open people’s eyes. Alligators aren’t good pets – people need to make wise choices when it comes to owning animals,” Jason added.

“The farm has been doing really well the last couple of years and we hope to keep that momentum going.”
