A man from Australia said he spent his $750 coronavirus support money from the government on a carload of beer!
In Australia, six and a half million people received the payment as part of the AU $17.6 billion stimulus package.
But when the man was asked by a passerby about the support money, he immediately answered: “I’ve just spent my stimulus money, I’ve got eight slabs in there and that should last me about eight days.”
In the video shared on Facebook by Sydney Crime News, the unnamed man showed eight cases of Victorian Bitter beer.
“I’m as happy as a pig in mud,” he expressed.
A lot of people who watched the video were also happy with the bloke’s decision.
One Facebook user said: “That’s exactly what it was intended for, spend it on taxable items, keep our economy afloat.”
Another wrote: “That bloke doesn’t have a care in the world!! Half his luck, good on him!”
A third added: “I work 28 days a month and pay mammoth amounts of tax and this makes me happy… good on him.”
Some people think the cash could’ve been used for something else but he would still have enough for his precious beers.
A 30-pack of Victorian Bitter cans cost around AU$55, and eight cases cost around $440. This man has extra money to buy other items during the coronavirus pandemic.
People eligible for the COVID-19 support money include veteran, social security, eligible concession card holders, and other income support recipients.
Those on family tax benefits and with commonwealth senior health cards will also receive AU $750. Some might have to give more information to the government to quality.
The money will be transferred directly into the account of recipients.
According to the Treasury’s website, more than 90 percent of payments will be made by mid-April.
