People might’ve suggested he just needed to hit the break as it seems there is enough space to stop the car. But the freshly certified driver, Mr. Zhang, chose to test his car’s ability to float in water by taking it for a quick dip.

Mr. Zhang revealed that he was reading text messages congratulating him on passing his driving test while he was turning onto the Laoping Bridge in Zunyi city in the province of Guizhou, China.

He told local media: “While I was driving, I tried to grab my phone and read some messages while two people were in front of me on the bridge. I became nervous and turned left suddenly.”

Fortunately for the motorist, his vehicle did not sink right away, giving him enough time to get out and go to safety.

“Luckily, the car floated for a while. I couldn’t open the driver’s door so I had to kick open the door on the other side. Otherwise, I may never have got out as my hand was dislocated in the chaos,” Mr. Zhang continued.

People helped him get to a dry area before giving him extra clothes, according to reports. Police also made sure that his vehicle was lifted out the water by crane.

It is not clear if Mr. Zhang will face any charges for what happened but people think the viral video is already enough punishment to remind him not to get distracted by his phone while driving.
