A man in Philadelphia was dragged off a bus by ten police officers because he was not wearing a protective mask.
Residents are furious after watching the viral clip that shows a man violently dragged from a Philadelphia bus by cops.
Filmed in the Center City neighborhood, the video was shared by the Philly Transit Riders Union and gained the attention of people on social media.
The first clip shared by the Philly Transit Riders Union shows a SEPTA supervisor enforcing rules about wearing masks even though he was not wearing one.
He declared on the bus: “If you do not have a mask you can not ride public transportation.” He then started to call out passengers and ordered them to get off the bus before he calls the cops.
One passenger was wearing a cloth over his face but the SEPTA supervisor told him that wasn’t enough and instructed him to get off the bus.
Another video shows a man and a group of officers yanking him from the bus. They sent his phone crashing to the ground as the man can be heard shouting swearwords at the cops.
In a statement to DailyMail, the Philadelphia Police Department explained that the bus driver had asked the man to get off the bus numerous times but he refused.
Officer Tanya Little of the Philadelphia Police Department said: “Philadelphia Police Department Officers arrived, and after being made aware of the driver’s request, also ordered the male to leave the bus several times.
“The male refused, at which point he was physically removed by the officers. He was not arrested or cited.”
Police are still investigating the incident.
The SEPTA posted on its website that it was urging passengers to wear a mask and follow CDC guidelines. However, the statement only asks for people to ‘comply with this request’ and doesn’t suggest another rule will be enforced.
