12 months ago, Darren ‘Dibsy’ McClintock was so fat he couldn’t walk up the stairs to bed.
He was even banned from local takeaways because of his weight.
Weighing more than 254kg, he faced the choice of changing his lifestyle and diet or risking death as he spent nights sleeping only on the sofa.
28-yar-old Dibsy was consuming 11,000 calories a day even when an average man only needs around 2,500. He was feasting on pizzas, takeaway kebabs, sausage sandwiches and more!
His friend printed leaflets saying, “Save Dibsy, obesity is killing him. Do not serve this man.” All takeaways in their area received the leaflets and the owners were asked not to let him in.
Dibsy was single at that time and he was miserable. He couldn’t visit the cinema because the seats were too small, he had to wear specially tailored clothes and he couldn’t get a job.
But now, he has lost almost half his body weight, got a girlfriend, and even passed his driving test!
He consumes only 3,500 calories a day and burns 2,000 calories with his incredible fitness regime.
“If someone told me last year I would be entering the Great North Run I would have thought they were crackers.
“I was at death’s door because of my lifestyle. I was a million miles away from doing a half-marathon.
“But I have got to the starting line thanks to hard work, determination and the support of an incredible group of people.
“Obesity is a major problem in the UK but I am living proof that it can be beaten. If I can do it, then anyone can.”
According to the World Health Organization, the United Kingdom is the third fattest country in Europe.
“I am much more confident now. Physically I am in a better state than I have been for years,” Dibsy continued.
“Mentally I am the best I’ve ever been in my life. There are so many things I can do for the first time that other people take for granted.”
He added: “I love heading to the beach for a walk with my labrador Rosie. And I can take my mum for trips out now. For the first time ever I have been able to buy clothes off the peg.
“I went to a sports shop to buy some tracksuits and I was like a kid in a toy shop.”
Congratulations, Dibsy! All your hard work has paid off!
