“The individual then climbed on top of the female and attempted to rape her, but he stopped when a crowd of bystanders formed,” New York Police said.

Videos taken by witnesses show the man on top of the frightened woman on the ground. She was heard screaming in terror as people shouted and yelled at Reyes to get off her.

In a video released by police, Reyes got off her and simply shrugged as if everything was okay. He then picked up his sunglasses and walked away.

Authorities have linked the rise in crime to the pandemic, protests, civil unrest, and a surge in employment.

According to police data, there was a 166 percent increase in the number of shooting incidents and 162 percent increase in the number of victims during a 4-week period compared to the same period last year.
