The American woman who was found dead with part of her scalp removed had been lured by a man across the border after telling her that her boyfriend had been kidnapped and she must pay a ransom.
Lizbeth Flores, a mother-of-two, was beaten to death and had all of her teeth pulled out by the killer in Mexico. She was found dead two days after she traveled from her home in Texas to Matamoros where her boyfriend lives.
Flores reportedly left her Texas home on August 9 and crossed the US-Mexico border to Matamoros. That same day, she called her mother, Maria Rubio, but they never heard from her again.
When Flores did not return home, Rubio contacted the Brownsville Police Department and reported her daughter missing. Sadly, the mother-of-two was found beaten to death the following day.
39-year-old Braulio Trevino Martinez, a registered sex offender, was arrested on Tuesday, the Daily Mail reported.
The law enforcement official told the news outlet that the motive for the crime was a robbery.
Martinez previously severed four years in jail on one count of indecency with a child and one charge of child sexual assault.
The devastated mother told Telemundo: “I feel very sad for what they did to my daughter. How they left her is what pains me. The pain that my daughter went through there at that time is what pains me.
“She was young, she had many things ahead of her and more because she had two children,” Rubio added. “And I want those who did that to my daughter, each one who participated in her death, I want them to pay.”
