It was on June 25 when 32-year-old Jose Velasquez had gone out for drinks with some of his friends.
The next day, he didn’t show up at work.
His fiancée, Chanel Nelson, was with him that night but it wasn’t until the next day that she heard the shattering news from his family.
An official search started as they couldn’t find Velasquez anywhere.
Days passed and there were still no traces of him. One can imagine how his loved ones’ anxiety rose and uncertainty ate their spirits.
But on June 30, a miracle happened.
Volunteers were only 10 minutes away from ending the search when they saw a flash of white deep in the foliage.
After they checked, they discovered it was the bumper of a white Honda, the same model and make as Velazquez’s. But the man they were looking for was not inside the vehicle.
It turned out that Velasquez was thrown out of the car during the wreck and he just managed to slowly crawl back to the car. He was then found lying next to the driver-side door.
Luckily, he was still alive. He had collapsed a lung and broken ribs but he had made it through five agonizing days.
Texas EquuSearch said: “Though he has multiple serious injuries, they are not thought to be life threatening, and it is thought that he will survive.
“Jose was badly injured and trapped in the woods for five days without food or water. Thankfully, he has been found alive, and we hope he will now have the opportunity to live another day, and many more years.”
Velasquez is now recovering in the hospital.
Tim Miller, founder of Texas EquuSearch, added: “I don’t know how he [survived] the initial wreck, let alone as bad as he was injured five days later … to still be alive … that’s why we do what we do. We believe in miracles and here was one today.”
When he was finally able to talk, Velasquez requested for a meal form Sonic and juice boxes.
