MaKhia Bryant’s biological mother is planning to sue after the 16-year-old was shot dead by police.
Bryant’s cousin, Deja Torrence, told Insider that her mother Hazel Bryant had spoken with the teen’s biological mother Paula.
She said that they are speaking with a lawyer to file a lawsuit after the teen died outside her foster home in Ohio.
Family members have claimed that Bryant was failed by the foster care system. It was not immediately clear who they want to sue or when it would be filed.
Torrence told the news outlet that Bryant had called the police when two other girls fought with her.
“Someone has to be held accountable. The family just doesn’t want this to be another senseless killing that goes under the rug and gets overlooked,” she said.
In an interview on Thursday, Bryant’s biological mother said that her ‘beautiful baby’ was taken from her.
“I love God and I’m just going to put it in God’s hands right now. That’s all I know how to do,” she said.
Bryant’s foster mother, Angela Moore, told CNN that two of her former foster children arrived at the house to celebrate her birthday.
“It was over keeping the house clean. The older one told them to clean up the house because ‘Mom doesn’t like the house dirty,” Moore said.
She also said that the girls would ‘argue all the time.’
“I never in my worst nightmare would have thought it would ever come to this,” she expressed.
Torrence told Inside that the teen’s biological family hasn’t contacted her foster family since her death.
Nicholas Reardon, the officer who shot Bryant, has been taken off street duty as investigations continue.
He is a Staff Sergeant in the Air National Guard and also serves in the 121st Security Forces Squadron.
